Italy rule with three golds in Qatar Fencing Grand Prix 2009 |
 DOHA,
January 26, 2009 - The Italians dominated the 2009 Qatar Fencing
Epee Grand Prix for men and women, finishing with three gold, on the
ultimate day here at the Aspire.
After the success in the men's event, the Italians took the
inaugural women's grand prix team gold pounding Poland 45-34 in an
epic final on Monday.
On their way to the final, the Italians beat second-seeded
Ukrainians 45-35, while Poland stunned top seed Canada with a
comfortable 45-24 victory in the semifinals.
Earlier on Sunday, Italy took men's team gold defeating Ukraine
45-25.
Rota Alfredo of Italy emerged champion in the men's individual
event, where he overpowered compatriot Frances Martinelli 15-10.
The only Romanian participating in the championship, Ana Branza took
the individual women's title. |
