QFF awarded rights to host 2009 Asian
Fencing Championship
DOHA,
August 21: The Asian Fencing Confederation (AFC) awarded the Qatar
Fencing Federation (QFF) rights to host the 2009 Asian Fencing
Championship which will take place in Doha, Qatar in September.
The decision came during the AFC General Assembly meeting held in
Nantong, China on Tuesday.
Qatar won 14 votes, ahead of Chinese Taipei with eight, while five
of the participating countries refused to cast their votes, the
meeting was attended by 27 AFC affiliated members.
Qatar awarded the rights reflects the trust that AFC has on QFF
under the luminous leadership of HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al
Thani, President of QFF and Secretary General of Qatar Olympic
Committee.
Saleh Amer Al Hemaidi, QFF General Secretary, Khalid Al Yazidi, QFF
Assistant Secretary General and Mr. Yahya Basahl represented Qatar
at the AFC GA meeting and submitted Qatar's bidding documents which
amazed other participating members.
QFF has successfully hosted Fencing World Cup in 2004, Fencing Grand
Prix in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The Federation will also host 2008
Fencing GP, however the dates are yet to be finalised.
The championship is the second Asian championship, in less than a
month, which Qatar will host after the AFC Asian Cup 2011. |
