Overwhelming response to Qatar Grand Prix 2008

DOHA, January 01, 2008 (Afzal Mehmood Shaikh): The fifth edition of Qatar International Fencing Tournament – Grand Prix 2008 has received an overwhelming response from the participating countries as it reaches 37.

Record breaking 222 delegates representing 37 countries including hosts Qatar have confirmed their participation for this year's US$ 31,000 richer tournament.

The first two days of the epee tournament will see competitions in individual event while on the concluding day teams will be engaged in action for the team title.

The participating countries include, Kazakhstan (14), Slovakia (1), Sierra Leone (21), Norway (6), Russia (21), Hungary (7), Germany (8), Czech Republic (5), Belgium (1), Italia (10), Slovenia (1), China (10), Korea (8), Ukraine (9), Poland (6), Uzbekistan (5), Japan (6), and Switzerland (8), Portuguese (2), Austria (3), Sweden (3), France (11), Australia (2), Cuba (2), Canada (3), South Africa (3), Egypt (6), Estonia (1), Finland (3), USA (10), Venezuela (5), Spain (6), Hellenic (4), Chile (1), and Bahrain (9).

Higher Organising Committee chaired by QFF President – HE Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed plans on Monday, to accomplish the tournament successfully at the Aspire – the Academy for Sports Excellence.
