Sabre gold for Qatar team in Singapore Open

DOHA, July 19, 2008 (Afzal Mehmood Shaikh): Qatar national fencing squad maintained their incredible fencing performance to bag three more medals in the Singapore Open Fencing championship which concluded Saturday.

Qatar's sabre team won gold in teams event beating Hong Kong 45-38, while the epee team lost against Hong Kong 35–45 to settle for silver. Foil team bagged bronze.

Qatar's team participation in Singapore tournament came in preparation for the upcoming international championships, including Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, where country will be represented by ace foilist Khalid Issa Al Hamadi.

The tournament featured participation of seven teams including Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Qatar.
