Tissot extend sponsorship contract with QFF

DOHA, January 20, 2009: Tissot, Swiss Timing has extended their sponsorship contract as the official timekeeper of the Qatar Fencing Grand Prix till 2014, as announced by the Qatar Fencing Federation Wednesday.

Vincent Dubois, Deputy Head of Sports Operations & Services in Swiss Timing signed the contract on behalf of Tissot alongside Saleh Amer Al Hemaidi, QFF Secretary General.

“Tissot is proud to sponsor the Grand Prix in Qatar since 2004,” said Dubois. “Looking at the success of the championship in all these years, Tissot has decided to extend the contract for further four years,” he added.

Tissot renewed their contract with the 2010 Fencing Grand Prix – Epee, which kicks off at the Aspire on Friday with participation of more than 257 fencers including men and women representing 32 countries.

“About 135 men and 122 women have confirmed their participation for the event that starts from Friday,” affirmed Al Hemaidi.

As the host country, Qatar is fielding a strong contingent of 20 fencers, including 13 men and 7 women in the four-day event.

“Qatar is the only Gulf country, participating in the event with 20 fencers and nearer in future we might expect other neighbouring countries too,” explained Al Hemaidi.

One of the oldest of sports and one where precision and timing are crucial, Fencing is an obvious choice for a watchmaking company and a perfect illustration of Tissot’s adage of “Performance by Tradition”.
