President felicitate finalists
DOHA,
January 20: Qatar Fencing Federation (QFF) President, His Excellency
Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani honoured the winner and
runner-up of the individual epee event held at the Hall of Sport,
Aspire Academy of Sports Excellence in Doha – Qatar, Saturday,
January 20 2007.
French Jerome Jeannet thrashed Diego Confalonieri of Italy 15-7 in
the Grand Prix 2007 title match.
Sheikh Saoud was delighted with the proceedings of the competition.
"This is the fourth consecutive year of the fencing event in Qatar
and we are delighted with the way things have progressed, we
received 151 fencers from 31 countries which broke all previous
records of the partaking fencers, on the top of this all players
paid their subscription fees so there was not much funding from QFF
in the event," explained the President.
However, a ritual which was being followed all these years will not
be witnessed this year where the federation takes the participating
fencers for a desert safari tour after the event.
"We have not arranged for the desert safari this year, instead there
would be a official dinner for the participants and guests on the
final day of the competition," explained Sheikh Saoud.
Sheikh Saoud also the vice-president of International Fencing
Federation (FIE) looking ahead of a successful conduct for the
competition which ends Sunday, January 21 2007. |
