Jeannet seize epee Grand Prix 2007 title

DOHA, January 20: Jerome Jeannet of France seized his first title in 2007 when he defeated Italian Diego Confalonieri 15-7 in the final of the three-day 4th Qatar International Fencing Tournament – Epee Grand Prix for Men here on Saturday.

Jeannet 29, looked in splendid form throughout the competition, though he got through some close encounters in his way to the finals he made it all count when it mattered the most.

"It was an easy match, I used good tricks which made the opponent slow down, I didn’t let him get over me at any point," said the French epeeists who is ranked 39 in the current 2006/07 season.

In his journey to the finals, Jeannet beat Matteo Tagliariol of Italy 15-14 in the close semi-final match. Earlier he squeezed pass Michael Kauter of Switzerland 15-12.

Confalonieri beat Eric Boisse the defending champion from France 15-7 in the semifinals.
