Qatar's epeeists return from Kuwait

DOHA, January 30: Qatar's epee team returned from Kuwait after participating in Martyr Cup under the patronage of Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah (Grand Prix FIE) held from January 26-28, 2007.

The tournament attracted top epeeists who participated to grab the toal prize money of US $30,000.

Qatar's delegation was headed by Abdullah Johar and Ali Belhaj, national team coach.

The four-member squad includes Amir Hossein, Fahad Al-Yami, Adel Jailani, and Ahmed Abdedaiyem.

The team returned home empty handed but the efforts were eulogized by Federation officials.

"It was a tough competition, our epee fencers made a good contribution to the Grand Prix event and we are pleased with their efforts, however further training will be carried to strengthen their skills and talent for competing in forthcoming events," said Saleh Amer Al-Hemaidi, secretary general of Qatar Fencing Federation (QFF).

"Participating in such international events will boost their morals and will help them get international exposure and experience," added Al-Hemaidi.
