Fencers engage in rigorous training camp in Beijing

BEIJING - China, May 03: Qatari Fencers attended a training camp in Beijing, China organised by the International Fencing Federation (FIE) in collaboration with the Chinese Fencing Federation before the circuit of 'Grand Prix' competitions in Asia so that athletes can better prepare these competitions in period of qualification for the 2008 Olympic Games of Beijing.

This first FIE training camp in Asia was held from 19 April to 2 May 2007 in Beijing in China.

The following 16 countries and regions Great-Britain, Australia, Cambodia, China, Korea, China Hong-Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, China Taipei, Thailand and Vietnam took part with 26 athletes under the direction of 3 FIE trainers.

The International Fencing Federation took care of all the expenses related to the participation in the training camp, including accommodation, food, local transportation and supervision.

Besides, it contributed to the cost of the plane ticket up to 400 dollars per trainee.

This training camp was very successful. All the trainees were satisfied with these 14 days of training. The Chinese Fencing Federation gave them the permission to also participate in a national competition in China during this period to improve both their technique and tactic, and better prepare the FIE « Grand Prix » competitions after these 2 weeks of intensive training.

Mr. ROCH, President of the International Fencing Federation went to Beijing to award the FIE diploma to the trainees.

At the end of this training camp, the International Fencing Federation and the Chinese Fencing Federation were thanked by the trainees for the excellent organization of the training camp and warm welcome of the Chinese Fencing Federation. They wish that the next training camp be organised within the next months, before the Olympic Games of Beijing.
