Girls fencing team shines in maiden
championship appearance
DOHA,
July 09: The Girls fencing team of Qatar returned home with a smile
after participating in the Asian Cadet and Junior Fencing
Competition in Almaty, Kazakhstan 2007.
Qatar delegation was headed by Fatima Abdulla - Chief delegate,
Henda - Coach including a 11-member cadet and juniors girls' fencing
team.
Leading Qatar's campaign in the individual category, epeeists Fatima
Dahi beat Japan and Korea 4-5, 1-5 respectively, while Noora Al
Hitmi outclassed hosts Kazakhstan 4-5.
In teams category, Noora Al-Hitmi,
Fatima Dahi, Hala Kamal and Abrar Al-Atef lost to Iran, while the
foil team comprising Mariam Al-Khelaifi, Noora Al-Kuwari, Afraa
Ateeq and Ghareeba Dahi were beaten by Kazakhstan.
Head Coad - Henda lauded the performance of Qatar fencers and said:
"It was a good competition, and will help boost the moral of the
players for the upcoming Arab championship in November. |
